A child of only 17 months of age, identified as Elian Fabian Cardona Bermúdez, died in the last few hours after suffering several burns on 90% of his body, apparently after suffering an accident with gasoline.The incident reportedly occurred in the municipality of Curillo, Caquetá. Following the alleged accident, army units transported the child by helicopter to a medical center in Bogotá. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of doctors, he died due to the severity of his burns.The reasons why the child ended up in flames are unknown at this time, but the incident is being investigated by authorities.

Another similar case occurred this Friday, January 20, in the town of La Candelaria, Bogotá, where a 16-month-old baby died after being savagely beaten. The child also suffered burns.The boy’s 17-year-old mother and her partner were arrested and are being held by authorities. The man is believed to have beaten and burned the child.

In recent hours, in a humanitarian action, soldiers from the 34th Infantry Battalion of the National Army, together with the Colombian Air Force, successfully evacuated a 17-month-old child from the municipality of Curillo to the capital of the department of Caquetá.

The presence of our troops in the area made it possible to provide timely assistance to this child, who suffered severe burns after an accident at his home.

The aeromedical evacuation was carried out in compliance with all humanitarian protocols, providing the necessary care to the minor. He was monitored during the flight and handed over to the medical personnel of the municipality of Florencia, where he was promptly transferred to the María Inmaculada Hospital for medical specialist care.

The Twelfth Brigade of the National Army will continue to work jointly, in a coordinated, and inter-institutional manner, supporting humanitarian aid missions, with the goal of preserving the lives of the inhabitants of this region of the country.
