Lisbeth Chañi Marca was found dead in various locations in the Puno region a week after being reported missing. Her case caused a stir after it was learned that she had been murdered and dismembered, allegedly by her partner.
The young woman’s remains were abandoned in a vacant lot and in a river, scattered across different areas. According to police investigations, the crime occurred in the room she shared with her partner, Rolando Mamani Lorenzo, 26.
Rolando Mamani’s arrest was key to the investigation. His contradictions and the analysis of the GPS on the van he was driving linked him to the transport of the remains.
The digital trail led officers to the Loripongo sector, on the highway connecting Puno with Moquegua, where they found part of the remains inside sacks.
One day after his arrest, Rolando Mamani was found dead in the jail cell of the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri).
So far, authorities have not confirmed the circumstances of his death.
Lisbeth’s family and friends arrived at the Santa Rosa police station to demand justice and that the case not go unpunished.
They maintain that Rolando Mamani did not act alone and requested an investigation into the involvement of possible accomplices.
Lisbeth was a law student living in a rental home with her partner. The crime has sparked outrage in the region and has become a new wake-up call to violence against women.
