I thought I had a bit of lint stuck in my seatbelt… until it moved.
That small movement turned into a nightmare when I realized my car had been invaded by Solifugae , also known as camel spiders, sun spiders, or wind scorpions. They’re not venomous, but their speed, unnerving appearance, and painful bite are enough to make anyone uncomfortable.
The first one was wedged between the seatbelt and the upholstery. I soon saw more: in the back seat, near the door hinge. They blended so well into the car that I almost didn’t notice them. Their bites can cause sharp pain, swelling, redness, and possible infection if left untreated.

To keep them out, vacuum thoroughly, seal cracks, avoid parking in dry, brushy areas, and use natural repellents like peppermint or citrus oil. Keep food out of the car, as pests attract these predators.
This experience was a chilling reminder that nature doesn’t always announce itself… sometimes it sneaks in quietly, waiting for its next trip.
