Although the case dates back to 2012, the story has recently gone viral again on social media. It tells the story of a 64-year-old Belgian man named Jan, who married an Indonesian woman named Monica who worked as a live-in housekeeper in his home.
What’s surprising about this story is that the man discovered 19 years later that his wife had been a man years before undergoing sex reassignment surgery. Jan, by mutual agreement with Monica, had decided not to have children. He already had children from a previous relationship. “She was an attractive woman, she didn’t have any masculine features,” the man stated. He added that she deceived him by pretending to have her period using sanitary pads. “Even during sex, I never noticed anything,” he added.
Some compromising messages from other men on Monica’s computer alerted Jan, who kept receiving rumors from friends and his own son that his wife was actually a man who had undergone surgery.
This all culminated in a physical argument between the couple. Monica then confessed that she was born a boy but was now a woman. The man initiated legal proceedings to annul their marriage and admitted to seeing a psychiatrist “to control my emotions.”
